DEAD TO SIN

Dead to Sin

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? - Romans 6:1-2
How can a dead man sin? There is not a Christian who does not face this problem. We have been released from the guilt of sin; how can we be released from the power of sin?

This sermon series is based on Romans 6. There are four sermons in the series:

JUSTIFICATION AND SANCTIFICATION

How does God deal with the sinner and his sins? Justification is the answer. God declares him to be righteous, and treats him as such. How does God deal with the sinful nature of the justified man? The answer is sanctification, that aspect of the work of God which deals with the power and pollution of sin.

So how exactly can we be released from the power of sin?  Three Key Words:
– KNOW
– RECKON
– YIELD/ OBEY

VICTORY OVER SIN: KNOW

“Do you not KNOW that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism unto death.” - Romans 6:3

VICTORY OVER SIN: RECKON & YIELD

“Likewise you also, RECKON yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” - Romans 6:11

“Neither YIELD ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but YIELD yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” - Romans 6:13

SHALL WE SIN?

The last three messages dealt with the fact that the believer is dead to the principle of sin. In principle we are dead and buried to sin but raised unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. That is one half of the story. We now prove that the believer is also dead to the practice of sin.
